On the 7th April I made my first journey to Ireland, alone with my camera, cv and newly printed business cards in hand (I know check out my adulting skills!). From the minute I stepped onto Irish soil I didn't feel alone, it's true what they say about the Irish they really are such a friendly and warm bunch. I spent that day exploring Kilkenny and just wow. What a beautiful place!
Saturday 8th April was the main reason for taking this trip over....
I have always loved Cartoon Saloon's work, their artistic style and attention to detail is something I admire greatly. When I found out they were hosting an Open Day for Lighthouse Studios, (a new joint venture between Mercury Filmworks and Cartoon Saloon), I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by, I was even more thrilled to be offered an interview! A packed day followed, with tours around Kilkenny and Cartoon Saloon Studio. Stalls from local business owners were present with wonderful local produce and estate agents supplied information about the area and relocating to Kilkenny (super useful).
Jeremy Purcell, (Cartoon Saloon's Supervising Director on Pete the Cat) was my interviewer and made me feel totally at ease. The day was nicely rounded off with a gathering in Billy Byrne's pub, where Tomm Moore signed my Song of the Sea book! (What a nice guy)
All in all, it was an amazing trip. I am very inspired and excited for the future of Lighthouse Studios!
..And yes Tomm I will be back!
This was an amazing opportunity that I will not forget.
